Boys Allowed: The New Bridal Shower

More and more brides are choosing to have a couples bridal shower which allows both the bride and groom to meet both sides of the family. No longer are bridal showers an all-female event. Nowadays, gentlemen, all bets are off. But, this doesn’t mean the boys have to put on that stuffy tie and iron their favorite slacks, today’s bridal showers can be engaging, social events that both male and females will come away from feeling happy, relaxed and energized.

Theme

It’s important to coordinate an event that makes both men and women comfortable. A tea party-type shower is a great idea, but remember your guest list. Many men may not feel comfortable or know exactly what to do at said event. Ask the happy couple what their expectations are. Many may want to have a shower that is activity driven. Bridal shower games are a great way to get everyone in the spirit, but such an event really needs a theme. A bowling-themed shower at your local bowling alley maybe fun for everyone involved, but be aware of what the bride and groom’s expectations are ahead of time.

What to Get

Couples bridal showers are often referred to as Jack and Jill showers and many guests struggle with what to get as a gift. Gendered-centered gifts such as lingerie, bath products, spa certificates, etc. are easy to buy, but what should you get if the gift is for both the bride AND the groom?

Many guests decided it’s best to get the happy couple something they can do together. Whether it’s luggage, a couples spa retreat, or dinner out together, buying a gift for a couple can be relatively easy and inexpensive (especially if guests decide to go in together).

Couples showers are a fun and engaging way to host a bridal shower. Adding both genders to the mix is exciting and allows for some very interesting bridal shower games (think guys vs. girls!). Overall, buying presents for the happy couple can be very easy and budget-friendly making the event that much more fun!
